Silver Lake
Before spending 20 years in advertising, Tom Schneider, founder of Silver Lake Studio, grew up deep in the woods of South Jersey, on the banks of Silver Lake. Clementon, NJ, a lakeside resort town since before the days of prohibition, when Al Capone used it as an escape. Since the early 1930s, the Schneiders operated The Silver Lake Inn on the white Horse Pike. It was the premiere destination between Philadelphia and Atlantic City.
The Silver Lake Inn operated until the early 1990s and burned down around the turn of the century and Clementon is no longer the resort town it once was. No one swims in the lake any more but the spirit of Silver Lake lives on, transcending the limitations of time and space. Silver Lake continues larger than life, reaching the sphere myth and legend.
The spirit of Silver Lake represents leisure-seeking adventure, prospecting, and rebellion. It lives on in the hearts of men and can still be found alive and well in hidden parts across the fruited plain, from New Jersey to California and nearly every state in-between.
Look for the different incarnations of Silver Lake from across the country on these pages in the coming days, along with the words of wisdom from our mentor and Guru of the Woods, Budd Silver, (one of the original moonshiners and rum-runners from the glory days of Silver Lake.
